Biography

Dr. Moritz Sutterer is an associate in Baker McKenzie's Munich office and a member of the IP Litigation Practice Group. He advises clients from all industries on all aspects of IP law, with a particular focus on patents and copyright. His practice includes international licensing agreements, IP and technology related contracts in transactions, portfolio transfer agreements, R&D driven joint ventures, as well as patent litigation.

Moritz graduated from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU) in 2012 and worked as a trainee in international law firms in Munich and Brussels. Prior to joining Baker McKenzie, he spent six years as a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition, where he was involved in numerous projects in the fields of intellectual property, private international law and competition law. Moritz worked as the legal manager of an international academic journal in IP and competition law (IIC). He has published various academic articles and position papers on current legal developments and wrote his doctoral thesis on "The conflict of laws in collective rights management". Moritz is also a qualified business mediator (Munich Centre for Dispute Resolution). Moritz joined Baker McKenzie in 2022.

Practice Focus

Moritz advises clients on all aspects of patent law and other intellectual property rights, including copyright in technology-driven markets. His practice involves both representing clients in court and advising on contractual aspects or portfolio transfers. Moritz has extensive experience in drafting, negotiating and implementing complex commercial agreements, including licensing agreements, research and development agreements, service agreements and collaboration/joint venture agreements.

Moritz assists clients in a wide range of industries, including life sciences, automotive, software/IT and content/media.
