Biography

Dr. Carsten Goldstein is a senior associate in the Frankfurt office and a member of the Firm’s Intellectual Property and Technology practice group. He advises national and international clients on all aspects of intellectual property law, with a particular focus on trademarks, trade secrets, copyright and unfair competition law.

Carsten studied law at Philipps-Universität Marburg and obtained his doctorate (Dr. iur.) in 2017. He completed his legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court of Frankfurt am Main between 2017 and 2019 and was admitted to the German bar in 2020. He was certified as a specialist lawyer for intellectual property law in 2024.

Carsten has been recognized in various rankings for his professional experience for years.

Practice Focus

Carsten’s practice focuses on all aspects of trademark, copyright, design and unfair competition law as well as trade secrets and artificial intelligence, covering both contentious and non-contentious matters. He regularly handles complex intellectual property disputes and represents clients in court, while also providing strategic advice on the protection, enforcement and commercial exploitation of IP rights.

Carsten frequently publishes articles on a broad range of IP topics and regularly lectures, inter alia on legal issues related to artificial intelligence. His experience further extends to transactional IP matters and technology-driven business models, as well as the management and optimization of global IP portfolios. He advises clients across a range of industries, including Automotive, Luxury Brands and Luxury, Fashion & Cosmetics, as well as Consumer Goods & Retail.

  • Acuity Knowledge Partners: Advising in particular on copyrights and artificial intelligence issues in the acquisition of the German AI company in the acquisition of PPA Group (‘PPA’).
  • IntApp Inc: Advice in particular on copyrights and artificial intelligence issues in the acquisition of the German AI company Delphai GmbH.
  • dtv Verlagsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG: Representing the company in the enforcement of its trademark rights against dtw-Buch GmbH.
  • Street-fashion label: Defending the client’s rights against product pirates in various civil and criminal litigation matters and advised on the trademark and design registration strategy.
  • Global online platform for apparel and footwear products: Enforcement of trademark rights.
  • Leading e-commerce platform for mobility: Advice and litigation in unfair competition and trademark matters.
  • International airline: Managing and coordinating a global trademark litigation project
  • Various clients: Advising on marketing claims and marketing measures in view of the German Act against Unfair Competition and copyright law.
  • German insurance company: Providing legal advice and judicial representation regarding the German Act against Unfair Competition and trademark aspects in its contracts.
