Baker McKenzie advised Swiss Life Asset Managers ("Swiss Life AM") and a large Swiss bank on the setup and launch of Clean Energy Infrastructure Switzerland 3 KmGK ("CEIS 3"). CEIS 3 is a joint initiative between Swiss Life AM and the Swiss bank, and it will invest in companies and projects in the areas of energy production (e.g., biomass, hydropower, solar thermal energy and photovoltaics), energy efficiency and supply infrastructure, which are usually not listed.

CEIS 3 gives institutional investors access to a portfolio of infrastructure investments in growth areas along the entire value chain of sustainable energy. Launched in November 2022, CEIS 3 has now achieved its successful first close with 38 institutional investors committing to a total of CHF 772 million.

According to Swiss Life AM, the Swiss energy and infrastructure sector remains dynamic and offers opportunities for a secure and environmentally friendly energy supply. Based on the strong track record of similar investment solutions in the past, this third investment solution is a successor and a continuation of the proven CEIS strategy.

Clean Energy Infrastructure Switzerland 3 GP AG is the general partner of CEIS 3, a Swiss limited partnership headquartered in Basel. It is 51% owned by Swiss Life AM, which also acts as an investment manager and co-distributor, and 49% owned by the asset management company of a Swiss bank, which provides management company services and is a co-distributor.

Baker McKenzie (in collaboration with another law firm, based in Zug) advised on all legal, regulatory and tax aspects of the project.

The team was led by Ansgar Schott (partner, Financial Services) and included Christian Rioult, Christoph Reitze (associates, Corporate M&A), Lukas Brügger, Felix Maier (associates, Financial Services), Andrea Bolliger (counsel, Tax) and Fabian Greutert (associate, Tax).
