Baker McKenzie has been recognized at the 2022 British Legal Awards by winning the Contentious Trust & Estates Team of the Year.

The awards, hosted at the Royal Lancaster London, shone a light on the best of the private practice and in-house legal communities.

The team secured the win for its work acting for the claimant/plaintiff in the Wong v Grandview (and others) litigation concerning assets worth over USD 20 billion held by trustees, individuals and companies in multiple jurisdictions around the world. In 2021, the long-running dispute went to an 80-day trial in the Supreme Court of Bermuda, which due to a spike in Covid cases in Bermuda was conducted entirely via Zoom. The case is the largest in value ever to come before the Bermudian courts and is believed to have been one of the most valuable cases being tried in the world at that time.

Baker McKenzie London Disputes Partner, Anthony Poulton, commented: "We are delighted to have won this accolade at this year's British Legal Awards. It recognizes the hard work and dedication of our team, as well as the size and complexity of conducting a case of this scale virtually."

Also at the awards, Private Equity Senior Associate, James Adams, was recognized on the night for his inclusion in Law.com's 2022 Private Equity Rising Stars List.
