Biography

Gemma is a senior intellectual property lawyer with deep experience in copyright, music licensing, brand enforcement, and emerging technologies including AI. Gemma has been recognized in Legal 500 for initiative and excellence. She is experienced in complex litigation and strategic advisory work for global technology, media, and consumer brands.

Practice Focus

Gemma provides complex advice to a number of online and offline clients in relation to the advent of emerging AI technologies, in particular in relation to the intersection between AI and intellectual property rights. She also provides complex advice to a number of new media, social and online platform clients on content moderation, platform regulation, licensing and associated digital media issues.

Gemma advises one of the world’s largest global technology companies of the impact of the UK Media Act 2024 on various products and offerings. She advises a number of new media and online platform clients in respect of various music licensing matters and global CG&R clients on brand enforcement and protection.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Acted as lead counsel on first-of-its-kind licensing deal between a global music licensor and AI audio company, creating a framework for licensing creative works for AI model training.
  • Successfully resolved high-value trade secret dispute between multinational security companies.
  • Acted for TikTok in UK Copyright Tribunal and arbitration on major global music licensing dispute impacting 100+ countries.
  • Advised leading platforms on intermediary liability, online regulation (DSA, OSA), and music licensing strategies issues including licensing negotiations, rights mapping exercises and risk profiling.
  • Represented global brands in High Court and IPEC litigation on trade marks, copyright, design rights, and patents.
