Biography

Monica Kurnatowska is a former partner in the Employment & Compensation group in London. Monica is a long standing member of Baker McKenzie's cross practice global re-organisations team, and is known for her expertise in business transformation, management of works council and union issues, and boardroom and senior executive issues. She is experienced in helping clients drive through change including in global M&A, post-acquisition integration, restructuring and redundancy, outsourcing projects and changes to terms and conditions. Recent projects include advising a global media company on a major multi-jurisdictional restructuring and redundancy exercise, including senior executive appointments and exits, and broader restructuring. Monica advised Takeda on its works council strategy in respect of the integration of Shire. She also led the team advising Nordic Capital on the HR aspects of its acquisition of the contracts maintenance business of ABB, and advising Hitachi on the acquisition and carve out of ABB's power grid business (over 70 jurisdictions). She has also advised Emerson Electric Co. on numerous global transactions and carve outs, including the HR aspects of Emerson’s acquisition of Aspen Technology which involved the combination of Emerson’s industrial software business and $6bn cost contribution to create a diversified high performance industrial software leader.

Practice Focus

Monica advises clients from sectors such as financial services, technology and manufacturing on the employment aspects of strategic projects. These include global M&A and restructuring, sensitive discrimination, whistleblowing and bonus disputes, investigations, and accountability reviews. Monica is also knowledgeable about TUPE, European Works Council and union issues and the challenges in the M&A context.
