Biography

Dr. Joost Vynckier is a senior associate in the International Commercial & Trade Practice Group in the Brussels office. He joined Baker McKenzie in 2018, after obtaining a PhD in the field of commercial contracts, sports and marketing law at the University of Leuven.

Practice Focus

Joost advises clients on all aspects of international commercial and trade, covering domestic and cross border agreements and transactions.

He has significant experience in drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements (including distribution, agency and franchising, licensing, manufacturing, sale-purchase, supply and service agreements) in different industries. Product related regulatory issues, the marketing, labelling and advertising of consumer products and other commercial aspects of business are also within his area of expertise. In addition, he regularly advises clients on export controls and sanctions regulations.

He is furthermore active in the field of sports law, and regularly speaks and publishes on this topic.

His practice also covers commercial litigation, including pre-litigation assistance, litigation and settlement negotiations.

  • Assisted an animal healthcare products manufacturer in setting-up its global distribution network.
  • Assisted a world-renowned hotel chain in rolling out its franchise network in Belgium.
  • Assisted an organizer of the World Championship Cyclocross with the drafting of its sponsorship and ticketing contracts.
  • Assisted various companies active in different sectors with the drafting and negotiation of a wide range of commercial agreements.
  • Assisted various companies active in different sectors (from baby nutrition to licensing) with their marketing campaigns.
  • Assisted various companies active in different sectors with their export controls and sanctions compliance.
  • Acted as legal counsel (secondment) to a world renown FMCG manufacturer and supplier.
  • Assisted a Chilean winery in litigation arising from the termination of its commercial relationship with a Belgian distributor.
  • Assisted a major Belgian financial institution in a litigation concerning a multimillion claim made by a foreign company regarding the attachment of Libyan bank accounts held in Belgium.
