Biography

Dimitrios Stefanou is an antitrust/competition and foreign investment associate working currently at the Amsterdam office. He is a EU-qualified lawyer (Athens and Amsterdam), and has trained, among others, at the Directorate General for Competition at the European Commission (Mergers Unit for Basic Industries, Manufacturing and Agriculture). Prior to that, he worked for two major Athens-based law firms, which both focused on civil and corporate litigation. He joined the Brussels office of Baker McKenzie in March 2020 as an associate, and he worked, among others, in the Stockholm office of Baker McKenzie as part of his cross-office secondment, before joining Frans Muller and his team in the Amsterdam office of Baker McKenzie in October 2023.

Practice Focus

Dimitrios advises clients on a wide variety of EU and competition law issues, mostly focusing on merger control and foreign investment reviews, antitrust and compliance, as well as EU/global investigations. Dimitrios's practice focuses on aviation and transportation, TMT, consumer goods and retail, and basic industries. During his time at the European Commission, he also dealt with merger notifications in the aerospace and defence industry, life sciences, manufacture of food and fabricated metal products.

  • Advised Chr. Hansen on the USD 1 billion divestment of its Natural Colors business to EQT.
  • Advised a bioscience company in relation to horizontal cooperation agreement with a competitor, and exclusive distribution issues in relation to a monopoly market.
  • Advised Hutchison Ports in the establishment of two new container terminal concessions in Egypt.
  • Advised APAC conglomerate in its EUR 2 billion acquisition of a major APAC airline.
  • Advised leading US and EU carriers in their network expansion agreement under EU competition law.
  • Advised airlines consortia in regard to consolidation in the aviation industry.
  • Advised and coordinated filings for BizLink its acquisition of LEONI Industrial Solutions business group.
  • Advised Cummins in its global reorganisation of its filtration business.
  • Represented companies in proceedings under the 101 and 102 TFEU before the European Commission, as well as the Greek and Dutch antitrust enforcers.
  • Lead associate in the creation of the Baker McKenzie dawn raid for a multinational computer technology corporation.
