Practice Focus
Mr. Ruiz-Correa's practice focuses mainly on labor, social security and housing agency law. He is also seasoned in executive compensation, employee benefits, employment terminations, collective bargaining, compliance and labor/social security legal audits and litigation.
Mr. Ruiz-Correa regularly advises on labor and social security issues derived form corporate restructures and reorganization transactions such as mergers, acquisitions and spin-offs.
Since 2019, he has served as HR liaison for Mexico of a Fortune 500 company, as part of a special cooperation project. He also worked at the Chicago office advising multinational companies based in the US that decide to start operations in Mexico.
Representative Legal Matters
- Advised one of the largest industrial suppliers in North America in the implementation of the labor reform on subcontracting, involving over 100 locations throughout Mexico.
- Advised a financial institution in Mexico in a restructure involving several thousand employees and 17 legal entities to comply with new outsourcing law in Mexico.
- Advised one of the largest retail companies in the world to close operations in Mexico, acting as lead labor attorney and coordinating more than 50 lawyers across seven Mexican states, involving 1,700+ employment terminations.
- Represented a global key client in the largest deal of the company's history consisting of the acquisition of an automotive air-conditioning unit, which involved the transference of more than 1,000 of the employees engaged in this business in different plants worldwide.
- Advised a multinational specialty chemical company, in relation with a multijurisdictional labor and social security due diligence, for the acquisition of two premier companies leaders in manufacturing waterproofing membranes.
- Advised an international leading multi-industry company on the labor and social security aspects of the acquisition of the largest electric substation manufacturer company in Latin America, which involved a cross-border corporate restructuring and transfer of employees.
- Advised a London-based trader and a Mexican sugar producer on the labor and employment aspects involved in the sale of a sugar mill, involving complex negotiations with strong national and local unions and dealing with several labor authorities at the federal and local levels.
- Advised a leading direct-to-consumer company in Mexico in the labor, employment and social security aspects of the acquisition of a world leading brand in the beauty and personal care industry that has over 443,000 independent leaders and consultants.
- Advised a multinational tobacco company in a corporate and labor reorganization that involved the transfer of approximately 1,100 employees simultaneously in 39 locations in Mexico.
- Acted for the largest waste management and disposal company in Mexico in connection with its corporate restructure and transference of nearly 4,000 employees nationwide.
