Biography

Natalie is a Local Principal at Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow's Intellectual Property & Technology (IPTech) practice group.

Fluent in both non-contentious and contentious matters across a range of industries, her practice focuses on corporate and commercial work; matters relating to the exploitation, management and enforcement of IP rights; data protection & cybersecurity issues; advertising, marketing & regulatory work; and civil & criminal IP disputes.

For the first 2 years of her career, Natalie cut her teeth in dispute resolution under a Senior Counsel handling general commercial litigation and arbitration matters. She has acted as lead and assisting counsel in numerous trials and hearings before arbitral tribunals and all levels of the Singapore courts.

Practice Focus

Natalie represents local and international clients in intellectual property (IP) & technology-related matters.

Recognised as a Rising Star by Managing IP, she provides strategic and practical advice to clients on commercial issues relating to IP licensing; franchising; due diligence; audits; valuation; and brand management.

She also assists clients with civil litigation in respect of all forms of IP infringement; private criminal prosecutions in respect of IP and IP-related offences; and IP arbitration.

Natalie also regularly advises clients on the full spectrum of issues relating to data privacy & cybersecurity, including reviewing privacy policies, data processing and transfer agreements, regional privacy-related projects, high-stakes data breach incident response matters, and related litigation.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Represented a multinational pharmaceutical company in its divestiture of pharmaceutical products in multiple Asian markets.
  • Represented a leading pharmaceutical company in a transaction involving the licensing of its IP for commercialisation, development and manufacturing in China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
  • Advised a world-famous fast food franchising chain on an IP restructuring linked to a global securitization project.
  • Represented various multinational clients in the healthcare, cosmetics, consumer goods, and luxury industries in relation to data breach incident response, regulatory investigations and related litigation.
  • Advised a global agribusiness and food company on a global overhaul of its data protection policies.
  • Spearheaded various multi-jurisdictional projects involving the review various advertising and marketing materials for leading F&B and consumer goods & retail clients.
  • Represented rights holders in applications for site-blocking orders under the Singapore Copyright Act, including continuing landmark proceedings under which the first ever “dynamic injunction” under the Copyright Act was granted.
  • Represented one of the world's leading OTT streaming services in an appeal to the Films Appeal Committee in respect of film classification.
  • Advised the producer of an award-winning film on IP ownership, licensing commercialization issues relating to various copyrighted works in the film.
  • Advised various multinational clients in the digital entertainment and media space on online content regulations, intermediary liability and availability of safe harbour protections.
  • Represented a leading mobile device manufacturer in an arbitration involving the licensing of Standard Essential Patents.
  • Represented a proprietary high-speed trading firm in private criminal proceedings against its ex-employee for a computer misuse offence, in the first reported successful private criminal prosecution under the Singapore Computer Misuse Act for misappropriation of commercially sensitive information.
  • Successfully represented an international art school in Court proceedings against ex-employees who misappropriated confidential information, including obtaining an interim injunction restraining their further dealings in such confidential information.
