Baker McKenzie advised Methanex Corporation on the antitrust aspects of its acquisition of OCI Global’s international methanol business. The deal was publicly announced on 8 September 2024, and it received the final required regulatory approval on 12 June 2025, when the review period under the US Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Act lapsed. The transaction closed on 27 June 2025.

In the transaction, Methanex acquired OCI’s interest in two world-scale methanol facilities in Beaumont, Texas; a low-carbon methanol production and marketing business; and a currently idled methanol facility in the Netherlands. The total consideration for the transaction was approximately USD 2.05 billion—consisting of approximately USD 1.2 billion in cash, newly issued common shares of Methanex, and the assumption of debt.

Led by Antitrust & Competition Partner Brian Burke, the core team included Samantha Mobley, Kurt Haegeman, Tom Jenkins and Lisa Weinert.
