Baker McKenzie continues to grow its Banking & Finance team, with the appointment of Brendan Smith as a partner, based in Sydney.

Brendan's practice focuses on project finance, infrastructure (including road, rail, airport and social projects) and energy finance. His clients cover borrowers and issuers, sponsors and financiers.

Baker McKenzie's National Managing Partner, Anthony Foley, stated: "Brendan is a highly regarded and experienced lawyer who has had a lead role advising on a range of major transactions across Australia (including first-in-market ESG financings). He also brings experience advising clients on transactions in Asia, Europe and the Middle East. We are delighted to welcome him aboard during a time of considerable growth within the practice."

In joining the Firm, Brendan stated: "I'm very excited to be joining Baker McKenzie's Banking & Finance practice, particularly at a time of considerable activity and transition across the infrastructure and energy sectors. I look forward to helping the Banking & Finance practice build upon its successes and growth in recent years. The Firm is a market leader with great depth across practice areas and this, together with Baker McKenzie's unrivalled global reach, provides the ideal platform for me to deliver the outcomes my clients are looking for."

Duncan McGrath, Baker McKenzie's Australian Head of Banking & Finance, commented: "We're excited to have Brendan join the Firm's Banking & Finance practice where he will add further depth to our greatly expanded offering as we respond to increasing client demand."

Brendan previously worked at King & Wood Mallesons in Sydney and at Linklaters in London and Dubai, and often guest lectures at universities on project finance.
