Leading global law Firm Baker McKenzie is among the big winners at the annual Middle East Awards 2022 hosted by the International Financial Law Review (IFLR) in Dubai on 12 October 2022. Awards won include:
- "Egypt National Law Firm of the Year" - Helmy, Hamza & Partners, Baker McKenzie Cairo for its outstanding track record of providing local law advice on the most innovative deals in Egypt.
- "Project Finance Deal of the Year" - Canal Sugar’s USD 700 million multi-tranche syndicated project financing of a large-scale agricultural farm located at Minya, Egypt. Baker McKenzie’s Cairo team acted as Egyptian and English counsels to the lenders and the UAE team assisted with UAE law aspects of the financing. The deal was also awarded "Best Structured Finance Deal in North Africa" at the EMEA Finance Achievements Awards 2022.
- "Project Finance Team of the Year" - Baker McKenzie for its cross-border collaboration on the most innovative project finance transactions in the Middle East.
This year Baker McKenzie and its member firms in the Middle East were shortlisted for a total of 14 awards across deals, teams, national firms and individuals, including most notably “International Law Firm of the Year”, “Saudi Arabia Law Firm of the Year - Legal Advisors in association with Baker & McKenzie”, “Equity Team of the Year”, “Loan Team of the Year”, “M&A Team of the Year” and “Woman Dealmaker Hall of Fame - Lamyaa Gadelhak”.
The IFLR Middle East Awards focuses exclusively on legal innovation in cross-border transactions and recognises the success of the legal industry including the most innovative deals, law firms and in-house teams. The winners are independently decided by IFLR, in conjunction with interviews with private practice lawyers, in-house counsel and financing specialists at investment banks.
