Baker McKenzie is further expanding its tax practice in the area of indirect taxes / VAT with Dr. Philipp Klinker as lateral. The 40-year-old tax advisor joins from the Frankfurt office of Flick Gocke Schaumburg, where he most recently was an associate partner, and will join the tax team at the Frankfurt office as a partner on October 1, 2022.

Prior to joining Flick Gocke Schaumburg, Philipp started his career at EY and KPMG. He later (2017-2019) served as Head of VAT Germany at Commerzbank.

"Philipp's deep professional expertise further enhances the team for our clients, who rely on our leading tax practice for practical, legally compliant and business-oriented solutions. His networking in the financial services sector is an asset to us. We warmly welcome him to the team," said Dr. Thomas Schänzle, member of the management committee and co-head of the firm's German tax practice group.

Philipp Klinker advises a broad range of clients on all VAT-related issues. However, his focus is on advising companies in the financial services and real estate sectors.

"Baker McKenzie's strong international and national network provides an excellent platform for VAT advice on complex business models, particularly in a cross-border context. I am very much looking forward to working with my new colleagues in the Baker McKenzie team," commented Philipp Klinker on his move.

Baker McKenzie last strengthened its tax team in April 2022 with Jörg Hanken and in January 2021 in Frankfurt with Florian Gimmler - both from PwC. Thomas Gierath previously joined Baker McKenzie in Munich in January 2020.
