Practice Focus

Aimi advises major clients in the renewable energy and resources sectors on project development, acquisition and financing and has broad experience advising in relation to corporate power purchase agreements, connection arrangements, retail arrangements and energy regulatory matters.

Representative Legal Matters

Project Development, M&A and Project Financing

  • Advised a consortium of Shell and Infrastructure Capital Group in its successful bid for Meridian Energy’s Australian business, comprising a portfolio of operational wind farms and hydro projects and proposed wind and BESS and electricity and gas retailer Powershop 
  • Advising GPG on its Australian wind farm portfolio across NSW and Victoria and BESS in the Australian Capital Territory including acquisition and financing due diligence and offtake arrangements 
  • Advised Wirsol Energy on the portfolio sale of its 400 MW operating solar portfolio in Queensland and Victoria with a BESS in Queensland and further development pipeline of solar and BESS 
  • Advised a joint venture of ZenobÄ“ and Transgrid on its bus electrification project, which included the financing, procurement, installation, commissioning and servicing of electric buses and batteries and an on-site PV solar and storage system at the Leichhardt bus depot in Sydney’s inner-west
  • Advised FAR Limited on the sale of its interest in the Senegal RSSD Project to Woodside

PPA and Offtake

  • Advised a number of corporates with respect to entry into corporate power purchase agreements including: 
    • Fujitsu on its first PPA in Australia with CWP Renewables, with offtake from the Sapphire Wind Farm
    • Orora on a PPA with Epic Energy with offtake from Mannum 2 Solar Farm
    • Mars on a PPA with Lightsource bp with offtake from Wellington Solar Farm

Energy Regulatory and Other

  • Advising a client on the energy regulations and regulatory pathway for the development of a green hydrogen facility and with respect to its energy markets trading capability program
  • Advised the AEMC on a rule change proposal to amend the National Energy Retail Rules to require energy retailers to provide assistance to consumers affected by family violence
  • Advised the AEMC on its review of technical standards relating to consumer energy resources (i.e., on-site energy generation and storage such as solar PV, batteries and electric vehicles)
  • Advised a Canadian institutional investor on its investment into an Australian carbon markets developer
