
Jorge J. Salazar-Cebrian
Biography
Jorge is a partner in Baker McKenzie's Tax Practice Group with 22 years of experience. Since joining the Firm in 2003, he has focused on tax and administrative law, legal protection, and tax planning, particularly on constitutional tax issues and defending taxpayers during reviews and enforcement actions by tax authorities.
Prior to joining the Firm, Jorge served as an in-house lawyer at GNP (Grupo Nacional Provincial, S.A.) and worked as an auxiliary attorney for the Seventh Civil Judge in the State of Nuevo Leon.
Practice Focus
Jorge focuses his practice on tax and administrative litigation. He has participated in defending taxpayers against unconstitutional tax and administrative laws, as well as against the actions of the tax and administrative authorities in the exercise of their audit powers. Also, he has participated in multiple tax audits as well as in proceedings with the PRODECON, as well as in the MAP procedures with competent authorities. In addition, he is knowledgeable about tax planning. He has provided professional services to multinational corporations, consolidated groups, and companies that are part of the manufacturing sector, automotive sector, energy and mining sector, among others. Likewise, Jorge has extensive experience in the analysis and interpretation of the Anti-Money Laundering Law.
Representative Legal Matters
- Provided support to taxpayers during audits conducted by tax and administrative authorities across all tax and administrative categories, as well as in administrative procedures arising from tax refund requests.
- Defended taxpayers against tax or fine assessments and denial of refunds by tax and administrative authorities.
- Defended taxpayers against enforcement of unconstitutional tax and administrative laws.
- Assisted in representing taxpayers during conclusive agreement requests with the Mexican Ombudsman and in Mutual Agreement Procedures (MAP) with competent authorities.
- Took part in administrative procedures initiated by SENER, CENACE, CRE, COFEPRIS, and PROFECO concerning activities conducted in Mexico by different industries.
