Biography

Clyde E. Rankin, III is a member of the Firm's North America Banking, Finance and Major Projects Practice Group based in the New York office and is Chair of the North America Projects Practice. Mr. Rankin is fluent in French. He has been named one of the Best Lawyers in America from 2006 – 2018 and is highlighted in Legal 500 US 2010, 2011, 2015, 2017 and 2018 for his work as an advisor to sponsors in project finance and renewable energy. He has also been named a New York Metro Super Lawyer in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Prior to joining Baker & McKenzie in 2005, Mr. Rankin served as the ninth chairman of Coudert Brothers LLP.

Practice Focus

Mr. Rankin advises clients on project finance and infrastructure transactions, mergers and acquisitions, privatizations, licensing and distribution agreements and joint venture agreements. Mr. Rankin has extensive experience in advising clients on significant renewable energy projects in the US and abroad, including the project financing of such projects, and he has been active in the wind energy sector for over 25 years. In addition, Mr. Rankin advises on the financing of infrastructure projects in the US, including toll roads, highway maintenance projects, tunnel maintenance and monitoring, and the refurbishment of refineries.

Mr. Rankin also represents foreign companies investing in the US and assists US clients with their investments in Eastern and Central Europe as well as the Russian Federation.

  • Advised a corporate purchaser in connection with a power purchase agreement for a 100 MW wind energy project in Texas.
  • Advised a US based company in connection with a power purchase agreement for a 75 MW wind energy project to meet its sustainability goals.
  • Advised a German based company in connection with the construction and financing of four electricity generating facilities in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
  • Advised a US based solar company on a master corporate power purchase agreement for use on a global basis.
  • Advised a Korean based electric company in the potential acquisition of several existing wind projects in the United States.
  • Advised a corporate purchaser in connection with a power purchase agreement for a 100 MW wind energy project in Texas.
  • Advised the developer/sponsor in connection with the project financing of a 146 MWp photovoltaic project to be located in Antofagasta, Chile.
  • Advised a US developer in the sale of a 97.5 MW wind energy project in Minnesota to a public utility.
  • Advised a US developer in connection with the financing of a 160 MW wind energy project in Oldham County, Texas.
  • Advised a US developer in connection with a $229 million tax equity financing of a 161 MW wind energy project in Oldham County, Texas.
