Biography

James Ng is a special counsel at Baker McKenzie, with over 10 years of experience in negotiating deals and resolving disputes by arbitration, litigation, and mediation.

As a trilingual lawyer qualified in four jurisdictions, James’ expertise is in helping clients navigate the complexities of cross-border disputes. He has advised and represented clients in litigations and arbitrations under the CIETAC, ICC, HKIAC, LCIA, SIAC and UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules. James also has experience in asset recovery and insolvency proceedings, as well as regulatory investigations and enforcement actions by the HKEx, HKMA, ICAC and SFC.

James is recognized by Legal 500 as a key lawyer for international arbitration. He is also an arbitrator, a construction adjudicator and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators (HKIArb).

  • Acted for semiconductor companies in intellectual property disputes on the licensing of proprietary instruction set architecture technologies and the unauthorized sale of products to companies on the BIS Entity List.
  • Acted for mining companies in joint venture disputes regarding multibillion-dollar African and Southeast Asian mining projects.
  • Acted for state-owned enterprises, luxury hotel brands and pharmaceutical companies in M&A and joint venture disputes in the automobile, hospitality and pharmaceutical industries.
  • Acted for listed and multinational companies in supply of goods and services disputes involving computer software, cosmetics, LPG, LNG, medical devices and vehicle products.
  • Acted for private equity funds and investment banks in share redemption disputes involving target companies in the British Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands.
  • Acted for administrators, institutional banks and private investors in pursuing fraud and constructive trust claims.
  • Acted for clients in arbitration-related court proceedings, covering a wide range of matters from enforcing arbitral awards to seeking and discharging anti-suit injunctions.
