Hugo Jay is a senior associate in Baker McKenzie's London office and is a member of the Firm's Real Estate group. He qualified as a solicitor in 2013 and joined Baker McKenzie in 2022.

Practice Focus

Hugo is an experienced real estate lawyer, who advises on all aspects of UK property law in respect of a broad range of assets including business parks, office blocks, logistics centers, sheds, hotels and mixed use development sites.

His particular focus is on investment and development and he regularly advises investors, developers and funders on the acquisition and disposal of property (either by way of asset sales or within corporate wrappers) and development and development funding opportunities by way of forward sale transactions, forward funding arrangements and income strips.

He also regularly advises on pre-lets, real estate finance and promotion arrangements.

  • Advising Frasers Logistics & Commercial Trust (a Singapore REIT) on the GBP 170 million acquisition of Blythe Valley Park, a 1.2 million square feet mixed use business park

  • Advising the UK subsidiary of Frasers Property Limited on the GBP 135 million acquisition of Lakeshore, Bedfont Lakes Business Park by way of a Jersey company share purchase

  • Advising a British Virgin Island JV on the GBP 95 million disposal and redevelopment of a London office block

  • Advising a US REIT on the acquisition of multiple sheds across the UK


  • Advising a Singapore REIT on the GBP 101 million forward funding and pre-let of a 668,000 sq ft state-of-the-art logistics facility

  • Advising a UK developer on the restructuring of forward funding arrangements for the funding of a 250,000 sq ft mixed use tower

  • Advising a UK house builder on a multi-phased regeneration project delivering over 5,500 residential and retail units in partnership with a London borough and registered provider

  • Advising London Legacy Development Corporation on the delivery of the GBP 1.1 billion 'East Bank' cultural quarter in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, which will include a V&A museum, Sadler's Wells theatre, BBC music studio and London College of Fashion campus


  • Advising a UK merchant bank on the real estate aspects of debt financing development projects across London

  • Advising a Malaysian retail bank on the real estate aspects of two circa GBP 135 million facilities secured over UK commercial real estate assets

  • Advising a global asset management company on pre-lets with complex works programmes within its UK retail parks
