Biography

Yindi is a partner in the Baker McKenzie Dispute Resolution team based in London, and a member of the Compliance and Investigations group. Yindi’s practice includes a broad spectrum of complex and high-value international and domestic commercial litigation for multinational clients, with specialist expertise in anti-bribery and corruption investigations, compliance and trust disputes.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Conducting an anti-bribery and corruption investigation for a Fortune 500 company in relation to bribery in a recently-acquired subsidiary, providing ongoing strategic advice and liaising with the Serious Fraud Office following a self-report of the conduct.

  • Conducting an internal investigation for a listed mining corporation into allegations relating to a multi-billion dollar development project.

  • Coordinating multiple investigations for a US-headquartered multinational services company into suspected bribery and corruption of public officials in South Africa and India and advising on potential Bribery Act exposure.

  • Advising a major offshore trust company and bank in relation to: (i) strategy and litigation arising out of allegations that it was invalidly appointed as trustee of nineteen offshore trusts holding complex business assets; (ii) the settlement of approx. EUR 50 million in potential tax liabilities; and (iii) the restructuring of a complex trust structure comprising 27 trusts and various offshore assets.

  • Conducting an investigation on behalf of a FTSE 100 client in the aerospace sector following a whistleblowing allegation about bribery and corruption in one of its UK subsidiaries.

  • Advising a credit rating agency under investigation by the European Securities and Markets Authority, with a particular focus on advice concerning legal privilege.

  • Conducting a compliance risk assessment for a US-listed medical device company into a prospective joint venture in a developing market and conducting an internal investigation in relation to criminal allegations involving third parties in Italy and Switzerland.

  • Acting for a FTSE 250 client in defending a claim by pension scheme trustees for a deficit contribution to the scheme in excess of GBP 36 million.

  • Representing the beneficiaries in a complex trust dispute involving several offshore trusts, companies and assets valued at approx. USD 150 million. The dispute related to the activities of a Protector, alleged to have taken part in a substantial fraud on the trust.

  • Acting for a beneficiary of a Jersey trust settled by a Singaporean settlor, worth approx. USD 30 million, in a representation brought by the Trustees following a challenge by another beneficiary on the basis of Singaporean succession laws and community of property rules (In the matter of the PW Trust [2010] JLR 619).

Corporate Responsibility

Yindi was a member of the London office's Pro Bono Committee from 2008-2018, acting as client contact for a number of pro bono clients whose work spans youth in conflict, environmental issues and child protection.

Yindi has assisted the UN High Commissioner for Refugees as intervener before the Court of Appeal and the Scottish Court of Session.

Yindi is a member of the Steering Committee of Baker McKenzie's network for Black, Asian and minority ethnic employees, BakerEthnicity.
