Laura Bortels

Laura specializes in private construction law. Her focus is on advising clients conducting major construction projects in the fields of infrastructure and commercial buildings.

Laura advises clients in every phase of a construction matter – from the structuring of a project, the contract negotiations, the project execution to post-completion litigation proceedings. Her practice focuses on drafting and negotiating contracts for the development, construction and operation of construction and infrastructure projects.

• Advised a leading global chip manufacturer of semiconductor computer circuits on the development of a state-of-the-art mega semiconductor plant in Magdeburg/Germany. In addition to providing advice on engineering and construction contracts, she had detailed insights in the business, commercial and legal aspects that are required for the successful implementation of a construction project involving new, highly sensitive and complex technology.

• Advised a global healthcare company on a major construction project for the development of a pharmaceutical ingredient manufacturing facility in Germany, including drafting and negotiating an EPCM contract, a design agreement and construction contract templates.

• Advised on the structuring, project management, and design agreements for the renovation of a building complex in Berlin. 

• Advised a listed US client on office and store fit-outs in Berlin, including the drafting and negotiation of bilingual (German/English) project management agreement, design agreement and VOB/B general contractor agreement.

• Advised a Berlin based airport operator on one of Germany’s largest construction projects in the infrastructure sector as well as in subsequent litigation proceedings with a dispute value of approx. EUR 400 million.

• Advised a major client form the public sector at the interface to public procurement law with regard to the conception and drafting of a contract regulating project management, planning and execution services for the renovation of a building complex in a central city location in Berlin.
