Description

The Assistant Financial Accountant will provide tax and statutory and financial accounting support to the Finance Manager and the Tax & Accounting Manager. This team is also responsible for performing certain in-market corporate tasks.

Responsibilities:

Financial Accounting

  • Post general ledger journals into the statutory ledger
  • Prepare analysis and support schedules for the statutory accounts
  • Assist in preparation of monthly and annual statutory accounts for B&McK Services Trust and Baker McKenzie
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations for GST, Partner Capital, Prior Year distributions and retained earnings
  • Complete reconciliation for FX in Local currency in statutory accounts and books 
  • Follow up and clear balance sheet reconciling items in the statutory books
  • Running interfirm bill reports to support the interfirm billing process
  • Work closely with the Payroll team in relation to monthly payroll analysis and reporting 
  • Preparation of journal requests to be sent to the R2R team

Tax Returns and ABS reporting

  • Prepare monthly BAS and IAS
  • Assist in preparation of the FBT returns
  • Assist in preparation of the firm's income tax returns 
  • Prepare monthly analysis of repairs and maintenance and assets in accordance with Australian tax guidelines
  • Complete quarterly work papers of expense review analysis for tax prepayments analysis
  • Assistance in the annual swap cheque process 
  • Complete various Australian Bureau of Statistics reports requested by the Australian Government
  • Assist with maintaining tax fixed asset register
  • Maintain ATO travel diary register

Partner Transactions

  • Prepare the monthly draw schedule for payroll
  • Distribute Partner Personal account Statements to partners
  • Respond to partner related transactions and partner queries
  • Issue follow ups and reminders to secretaries in relation to submission of Partner expenses in line with global deadlines
  • Preparation of the annual National Partner top up payment
  • Calculation of the annual Principal Share of Tax Installments

General

  • Preparation of manual invoices
  • Assists Finance Manager and Tax and Accounting Manager with ad hoc tasks
  • Assist with system related projects as required

Experience Required

Qualifications/Experience

  • Relevant work experience
  • University degree with a major in Accounting
  • Prior experience in a law firm or professional services environment preferred but not essential
  • SAP system experience 

Technical Skills

  • Very good knowledge of accounting/book keeping
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Demonstrates technical and professional knowledge relevant to Assistant Financial Accountant's role
