Biography

Allen Ng is the managing partner of Baker McKenzie's Hong Kong office and serves as chair of the Firm’s Mainland China and Hong Kong management team. He is a seasoned member of the Banking & Finance Practice Group. He is regularly top-ranked among the highly recommended lawyers by Chambers and Legal 500 in the area of aircraft and asset finance.

Allen focuses his practice on asset and structured finance matters. He regularly advises airlines, leasing companies and financial institutions on a wide range of transactions, bringing strategic insight and practical experience to complex cross-border deals. Allen also regularly advises on bilateral and syndicated loan transactions across Hong Kong and Mainland China.

Aircraft and Equipment Leasing and Finance

Acting for major airlines in China (including Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines and HNA Group Airlines) in relation to aircraft transactions including sale and purchase transactions, operating leases, sale and leaseback transactions, finance leases, free-trade-zone structured lease, JOLCOs, French tax optimized leases, ECA/EXIM supported financing transactions and pre-delivery finance for over 25 years.
Acting for Thai Airways in relation to its operating leases and finance leases for over 25 years.
Acting for leasing companies in and outside China in relation to sale and purchase transactions, operating leases, sale and leaseback transactions, finance leases, free-trade-zone structured lease, Balthazar-backed financing, JOLCOs, French tax optimized leases, ECA/EXIM supported financing transactions and pre-delivery financing for over 25 years.
Acting for financial institutions in and outside China in relation to aircraft transactions.
Acted for Thai Airways’ landmark acquisition orders of Boeing 787 Dreamliners in 2024.
Acted for AVIC International Leasing in its Balthazar-backed aircraft financing transaction, awarded as Aircraft Finance Deal of the Year in 2023.
Acted for HNA Group in its restructuring and aircraft leases over 300 aircraft in connection with its reorganization initiated in 2021.
Acted for Thai Airways in its restructuring, including aircraft leases and cross-border creditor coordination from 2020 to 2025.
Acted for Air China in its French tax optimized leases arranged by HSBC and DBS, awarded as Asian Deal of the Year by AirFinance Journal in 2006.
Acted for Air China, China Southwest Airlines and CNAC-Zhejiang Airlines on the transfer of aircraft leases to Air China by way of novation, in relation to one of the mergers of the “big 3” Chinese airline groups a result of the State council’s mandate to restructure the airline industry in China.
Acted for China Eastern Airlines, China Eastern XiBei Airlines and China Eastern Yunnan Airlines in respect of the transfer of aircraft leases to China Eastern Airlines by way of novation in relation to one of the mergers of the “big 3” Chinese airline groups a result of the State council’s mandate to restructure the airline industry in China.

Acting for a number of auto finance and leasing companies on securitization transactions in China.
Acting for banks in Hong Kong and in Mainland China in relation to real estate projects in Beijing, Shanghai and other locations.
Acting for banks in relation to numerous standby letter of credit facilities, bilateral and syndicated loan transactions in Hong Kong and in Mainland China.
Acted for financial institutions in structured bond transactions.
