Biography

Azlan is a Local Principal and an M&A lawyer at Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow in Singapore.

Azlan is highly regarded by his clients and has many years of experience advising clients navigate complex regulatory regimes, advise on deal structuring, and drafting and negotiating their transaction documents.

He has previously been seconded in-house to the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and AMP Capital, assisting each with their infrastructure transactions. These experiences have made Azlan remain always steadily focused on the commercial objectives of the client.

He has previously worked for top-tier international firms across Sydney, London and Singapore, and is fluent in English, Bahasa Melayu and conversational Bahasa Indonesian.

Azlan acts for financial investors (sovereign wealth funds, pension funds and family offices), financial sponsors (private equity funds, infrastructure funds and real estate funds), strategics, corporates and management teams on complex, cross-border public and private mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic collaborations, buyouts, and project developments across a wide range of industries including energy, infrastructure, transport, logistics, healthcare and TMT sectors.

  • Advised APA Group for Hong Kong's Cheung Kong Infrastructure’s (CKI Group) A$13bn (US$9.8bn) offer.
  • Advised Denham Capital for its sale of Nexif Energy to RATCH Group PLC.

Digital infrastructure and technology

  • Advised BDx (backed by I Squared) on their acquisitions of data centers from Indosat.
  • Advised Axiata Group for the minority investment from SoftBank, additional investment from Mitsui, and its "digibank" joint venture with RHB Bank.
  • Advised a large Australian telecommunications company with its carve-out of fibre assets for investment by private capital.

Transport and logistics

  • Advised a consortium of ADIA, CPPIB, Australian Super and Transurban for the privatization of the Westconnex tollroad project in Sydney, Australia.
  • Advised Dexus for its joint venture with GIC to create a diversified Australian logistics platform.
  • Advised GIC for its joint venture with a large Australian logistics real estate developer for the development and acquisition of several logistics warehouses.

Healthcare and social infrastructure

  • Advised Brookfield for its acquisition of Healthscope Limited, the second largest private hospital operator in Australia and the largest pathology services provider in New Zealand, for approximately $4.1 billion.
  • Advised AMP Capital with respect to its acquisition of Ararat prison.
