Biography

Seraphim Ma is the Head of the Employment & Compensation practice group and has been appointed as the Responsible Person at our Taipei office. Having previously acted as the Managing Partner from July 1, 2021, to July 1, 2025, she led the office to receive the 2024 and 2025 Taiwan Law Firm of the Year accolade from the Chambers Asia Pacific & Greater China Region Awards, as well as the 2023 award from the IFLR Asia Pacific Awards. Since joining the firm in 1990, she has consistently been ranked as a Band 1 Leading Partner by both Chambers and Partners and The Legal 500. Additionally, her widely recognized expertise includes employment law, intellectual property law, dispute resolution (criminal, civil, and administrative litigation), and joint venture projects with the government.

Furthermore, Seraphim has received several prestigious awards, including the Top 50 Women Leaders by International Employment Lawyer in 2022 and the Asia Women in Business Law Award by the Euromoney Legal Media Group in 2014 and 2016. She was the only winner from Taiwan for these awards. Seraphim is a prominent and active civic leader who provides practical recommendations to the Taiwan government on key legislation through her senior executive positions. She has also served as a board governor and supervisor for the American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan, as well as the co-chair of the HR Committees for both the American Chamber of Commerce Taiwan and the European Chamber of Commerce Taiwan.

Seraphim's practice focuses on intellectual property law, dispute resolution (criminal, civil and administrative litigation), employment law, and compensation.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Advised and assisted computer software service companies, browser developers, and semiconductor manufacturers; handled patent prosecution, intellectual property lawsuits, injunctions and legal strategies for patent, copyright and trade secret cases in Taiwan and China.

  • Advised internationally renowned medical and biotechnology groups, hi-tech companies, financial institutions, restaurant chains, hypermarkets, and retailers on labor disputes, including settlement, mediations, lawsuits, union negotiations and industry-specific exemptions from labor law limitations.

  • Led the preparation and submission to the government of the position paper with respect to Taiwan's labor laws.
