Biography

Kunal Katre is a principal in the Banking & Finance Practice Group at Baker McKenzie in Singapore. He has significant experience advising on a wide range of finance transactions, including general syndicated loans, P2Ps, acquisition financing, margin lending, structured financing, leveraged financing, first and second lien financing structures, and private equity led sponsor financing, representing a mix of corporate borrowers, banks and private equity sponsors.

Kunal has worked in Singapore for over 14 years and has prior experience working in London (where he worked for a magic circle firm) and India (where he worked for a leading Indian law firm).

Representative Legal Matters

  • Advising HSBC as lead arranger in the USD 125 million syndicated financing for Shriram Finance Limited’s social loan.

  • Advising Standard Chartered as lead arranger in the USD 200 million syndicated financing for CreditAccess Grameen Limited’s social loan.

  • Advising Standard Chartered as lead arranger in the USD 150 million syndicated financing for Avanse Financial Services Limited’s social loan.

  • Advising CIMB Singapore and CIMB Niaga as mandated lead arrangers in connection with the acquisition of Greenfield Dairy (in Singapore and Indonesia) by TPG and Northstar. The financing was a multi-currency offshore and onshore financing structure sized at USD 45 million for the offshore piece and IDR 1.39 trillion for the onshore piece.

  • Acted for ANZ and the other MLAs in connection with a USD 1.75 billion financing for SKI Mauritius Carbon Black Limited (part of the Aditya Birla Group) featuring over 20 arrangers and lenders.

  • Advising Deutsche Bank and DBS Bank Limited in various financings in Singapore and Vietnam in the education sector.

  • Advising the arrangers in connection with structured senior and mezzanine financing for the reorganisation of the Pathology Asia Holdings Group (majority owned by TPG).

  • Advising the FinAccel Group (a financial technology company creating products in retail credit for Southeast Asia and operating under the credit-lending app Kredivo in Indonesia) on their debt-raising programmes in from various credit funds.
