Biography

Jaap Huenges Wajer is a senior associate in the Indirect Tax Team at Baker McKenzie’s Amsterdam office. He advises multinational and domestic clients on customs, trade and sanctions, and value‑added tax (VAT) matters, with a particular focus on cross‑border transactions and international supply chains.

Jaap’s practice centers on customs and trade advisory work, including supply chain optimization, import and export compliance, sanctions‑related risk assessments, and dispute resolution. He regularly assists clients in identifying where efficiencies, cost savings, and risk mitigation opportunities can be achieved within existing supply chains. In addition, he advises on VAT aspects arising from international trade flows and represents clients in administrative and judicial proceedings before the Dutch authorities and courts. His experience spans a broad range of industries, including mining, technology, manufacturing, energy, pharmaceuticals, and consumer goods.

Practice Focus

Jaap supports clients in entering, operating, and expanding within the EU market, as well as in navigating the customs, trade, and sanctions frameworks of individual EU Member States. He also advises EU‑based companies on their expansion into non‑EU jurisdictions, providing integrated customs, trade, sanctions, and VAT advice tailored to international business operations.
