Biography

Lyubomir (Lubo) Georgiev co-heads the Tax practice in Switzerland and heads the International Tax & Global Wealth Management practice in Zurich. Previously he was EMEA Tax Knowledge Management lead and a member of the EMEA Wealth Management Steering Committee. Lyubomir has assisted high-net-worth individuals and entrepreneurs, family offices, fiduciaries, insurance companies, banks, asset managers, investment advisers, sovereign wealth funds, private equity funds, hedge funds, FinTech, start-ups and non-profit foundations. He participated in the negotiations of the special arrangements between the Principality of Liechtenstein and the UK on voluntary disclosure, tax compliance certification and tax information exchange. Lyubomir has practiced law since 2003 in the United States and Switzerland and is admitted to practice in Washington DC, US Tax Court, and in Switzerland as a foreign-qualified solicitor in England and Wales. He has been mentioned and ranked in Chambers Global and Legal 500 as an expert in practice areas such as private client, net wealth, insurance, and taxation.

Practice Focus

Lyubomir regularly advises on issues relating to classification, disclosure and reporting rules under the US Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), Qualified Intermediary / QDD regime; OECD Common Reporting Standard (CRS), Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF), and Mandatory Disclosure Rules (MDR); FATF AML and Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASP). He practices in the areas of cross-border taxation, withholding and tax treaties, and regulatory compliance in the context of global wealth management and succession, life insurance and annuity products, trust and estate planning, expatriation and relocation, Section 892 benefits, and digital assets / cryptocurrencies.
