
Frederik Alexander Dörr
Biography
Frederik Dörr is a member of the international trade, compliance and sustainability practice in Baker McKenzie's Berlin office. Frederik studied law at the University of Göttingen and the Humboldt University of Berlin, focusing on international law and European law. After his studies, he worked at an international law firm in Berlin as a research assistant. Before joining Baker McKenzie as an associate, Frederik completed his legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court Berlin, including stages at the German Federal Foreign Office, a boutique law firm specializing in trade law and antitrust law, and another international law firm in Berlin. Prior to studying law, he completed a B.A. at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg’s business school, thereby maintaining a sustained understanding of clients’ needs and business dynamics.
Practice Focus
Frederik focuses on international, European and national law in the areas of trade, compliance and sustainability. He advises clients on internal compliance systems, economic sanctions and embargo regulations, export control law and investment screening law. He supports internal and external investigations, audits and self-disclosures of export control and sanctions violations. In addition, he assists clients in complying with the rapidly evolving EU and German legal situation in the area of sustainability, in particular the new directives and regulations under the EU Green Deal and the German Supply Chain Duty of Care Act. This also includes the establishment and improvement of corporate governance structures and internal compliance programs in relation to foreign trade law as well as environmental, social and governance issues.
Representative Legal Matters
- Advising a company in the automotive sector on group-wide grievance cases on potential violations of the German Act on Corporate Due Diligence Obligations in Supply Chains (LkSG) and representation in inquiries by the competent German authority.
- Advising several companies on a variety of export control issues, in particular the need for/application for export licenses, the Dual-Use Regulation and German regulatory practices.
- Conducting multijurisdictional FDI assessments of envisioned corporate reorganizations involving group entities established in the EU.
- Advising a German DAX company on trade audit issues and representation in subsequent governmental investigation of alleged customs and export control compliance violations.
- Advising multiple companies on EU restrictive measures, including updates of sanctions regulations, corporate reorganizations and financing, fulfilment of existing contracts and drafting of contract clauses in compliance with EU and German anti-blocking requirements.
- Carrying out a multijurisdictional analysis of personal criminal liability risks for managers of multinational industrial company with global trade representation, including dedicated risk assessments for specific trade representation setups, potential mitigating measures and corporate reorganization considerations.
- Advising a German company’s trade compliance and associated risks as part of buyer’s due diligence in an M&A transaction.
