Biography

Josh Chamberlain is a senior associate in the Competition, Trade & Foreign Investment Practice of Baker McKenzie's London office. He advises across a wide range of antitrust and competition matters, with particular emphasis on multi-jurisdictional merger control and behavioural and compliance advice. Prior to joining Baker McKenzie, Josh worked at a leading global law firm for eight years, including stints in its Washington, Hong Kong, Beijing, Brussels and London offices.

Practice Focus

Josh’s practice focuses on merger control, including global coordination of merger control and foreign investment filings in Phase 1 and Phase 2 proceedings. His practice also covers information exchange, abuse of dominance and compliance issues. Josh advises on complex antitrust issues across a broad range of sectors with particular experience with financial services, industrial and private equity clients. He has represented clients in matters before the UK Competition and Markets Authority, the European Commission, the US Department of Justice and the US Federal Trade Commission.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Advised financial services business on complex, transformational acquisition which prompted an in-depth Phase II review by the European Commission and a multi-billion euro structural remedy and behavioural remedies.
  • Advised buyer in acquisition involving two of the largest logistics providers in the UK, achieving Phase 1 clearance.
  • Advised on proposed merger of the two largest rail companies in Europe, which resulted in a Phase II investigation by the European Commission.
  • Advised buyer in acquisition involving two of the three largest suppliers of washroom services in the UK, which prompted a Phase 2 investigation by the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority and the negotiation of remedy.
  • Advised energy company on multi-jurisdictional foreign investment and national security filing analysis, coordinating filings in multiple jurisdictions and directing local counsel.
  • Other notable matters include an FCA market study, a MOFCOM (now SAMR) merger control filing for a Japanese conglomerate, joint marketing for a major private jet manufacturer, a relevant market analysis for a global online accommodation marketplace and numerous other merger filings.
