Biography

Nadine is a Senior Trade Marks Associate in the Intellectual Property practice. Nadine has extensive experience managing multijurisdictional trade mark portfolios with a focus on the contentious trade mark disputes, multijurisdictional brand clearance advice, filing strategies, design and copyright registrations. Nadine's practice is mainly in the food, beverage and technology sectors. Nadine is a qualified solicitor in South Africa and started her practice in South Africa.

Practice Focus

Most of Nadine's time is spent providing strategic advice on trade mark disputes such as infringements, oppositions, invalidity, cancellation actions and  company name disputes; advising on new product launches through pre-launch brand clearance advice, preparing filing strategies in the artificial intelligence, food, confectionery and beverages sectors.

Nadine has been actively involved in INTA since 2007 and is currently a member of INTA's Emerging Issues Committee. She has served on various INTA committees since 2008 and was the Sub-committee chair for the Model Law Trademark Guidelines sub-committee from 2014-2019. She also served on INTA's Africa Global Advisory Council from 2018-2019.

  • Acting for one of the leading artificial intelligence companies on a complex multi-jurisdictional trade mark dispute to prevent the registration of one of their core trade marks by a competing AI start-up.
  • Successfully helping one of the largest FMCG companies in an appeal to the Appointed Person to protect one of their well known soap products.
  • Successfully assisting one of the largest FMCG companies prevent its iconic and well known ice cream brand from being diluted in the UK.
  • Represented an FMCG in a multijurisdictional defence of its ice cream trade mark applications which were opposed by a well known energy drinks company.
  • Advising a leading tea company on an infringement claim in relation to its biggest selling tea products.
  • Advising a high end tea business with an infringement claim against a trade mark pirate.
