Leading global law firm Baker McKenzie announced today that Bryan Bloom has joined its Antitrust & Competition Practice as Counsel in New York. Bryan joins the Firm from UnitedHealth Group, where he held a senior in-house antitrust leadership role, advising the company globally on a broad range of complex antitrust and competition matters, including transactions and regulatory filings, litigation, government investigations, compliance initiatives, and strategic counseling.
Before moving in-house, Bryan spent a decade in the New York State Attorney General's Antitrust Bureau, where he served as Senior Enforcement Counsel and led major antitrust investigations and litigation. He previously practiced at several international law firms, representing clients in merger reviews, government investigations, and antitrust litigation.
"Bryan brings a distinctive combination of experience that few antitrust lawyers can match, having advised clients from the perspectives of a senior state enforcer, trusted outside counsel, and in-house antitrust leader," said Creighton Macy, Global Head of Baker McKenzie's Antitrust & Competition Practice. "His deep understanding of state attorney general enforcement, coupled with his firsthand experience managing antitrust risk within a leading global organization, will be tremendously valuable to clients facing heightened regulatory scrutiny and increasingly complex competition challenges. I have worked with Bryan for over 15 years and we are very excited that he's joined our globally leading team."
"Bryan is a tremendous addition to our New York office and our Antitrust & Competition team,” added William “Widge” Devaney, Americas Chair of Baker McKenzie's Global Dispute Resolution Practice. "His credibility with regulators, extensive enforcement experience and practical understanding of how companies approach antitrust risk only strengthens our ability to help clients address significant business and regulatory challenges. That experience is particularly relevant as multinational organizations navigate evolving enforcement risks and merger control requirements in complex transactions. We are delighted to welcome Bryan to the Firm."
Baker McKenzie's Antitrust & Competition Practice is one of the largest in the world with more than 365 practitioners across 70+ offices and 40+ countries. Consistently recognized as a global leader, the group handles a comprehensive spectrum of competition law matters, including merger control, antitrust litigation, government investigations, criminal and civil enforcement actions, compliance counseling and strategic antitrust advice. The Firm's integrated global platform enables clients to navigate increasingly complex antitrust and competition issues across jurisdictions and industries.
Bryan joins during a period of continued significant growth for the Firm's Antitrust & Competition Practice, as regulators worldwide intensify their focus on competition enforcement, merger review, compliance and consumer protection. The practice most recently added Mark Hamer, former Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Antitrust Division of the US Department of Justice, as well as former DOJ senior antitrust and consumer protection litigator Tim Finley.
Bryan’s background will also strengthen Baker McKenzie’s State Attorney General Investigations Practice, which includes leading practitioners and former government officials including former US Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein, former Federal Bureau of Investigation official Sumon Dantiki, former Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr, former Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Roper and cybersecurity and data privacy lawyer Kate Hanniford.
"I am excited to join Baker McKenzie and its outstanding Antitrust & Competition team," said Bryan. "The Firm's global platform, collaborative culture and deep capabilities across antitrust and State Attorney General matters are an exceptional fit with my experience in government, private practice, and in-house. I look forward to working with colleagues across the Firm to help clients navigate their most significant competition and regulatory challenges.”
Bryan earned his BA from Amherst College and his JD from Cornell Law School. He has held leadership positions within the American Bar Association Antitrust Law Section and the National Association of Attorneys General Antitrust Task Force.
