Biography
Aleks is a senior associate in Baker McKenzie's Tax team in Sydney and advises on the stamp duty, GST and land tax implications of a broad range of commercial transactions.
In 2023, Aleks was recognised as the winner of the taxation category at the Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 Awards.
Practice Focus
Aleks’ practice focus is on the stamp duty and GST implications of commercial transactions, including M&A and private equity transactions, corporate restructures, commercial property, funds management, financing, energy and digital infrastructure transactions, as well as engaging with and managing disputes with revenue authorities across Australia.
Representative Legal Matters
- Advised HMC Capital on various significant transactions including:
- the AUD 1.9 billion acquisition of Global Switch, as well as its AUD 400 million acquisition of iSeek, in connection with the establishment of the ASX-listed Digital Infrastructure REIT;
- the merger of ASX-listed HomeCo Daily Needs REIT with ASX-listed Aventus Group resulting in a combined portfolio size of AUD 4.1 billion and post-merger integration; and
- establishment of and capital raisings for various unlisted funds.
- Advised PSG, a US-based private equity fund on its AUD 445 million acquisition of Protecht Group and other significant acquisitions.
- Advised a large Australian retail client on a significant shopping centre acquisition.
- Advised energy clients on transactions spanning the lifecycle of various projects.
- Advised a large multinational technology client in a significant stamp duty dispute with the New South Wales Office of State Revenue.
- Advised a large Australian energy company in a significant stamp duty dispute with the NT Revenue Office.
- Advised various multinational and Australian groups on significant and complex restructures.
