Biography

Sidney is a senior associate in Baker McKenzie's Tax team in Sydney and has ~ 7 years' experience in tax.

He has extensive experience in advising multinational clients on international tax and transfer pricing issues with experience across the technology, pharmaceutical and professional services industries.

Prior to working at Baker McKenzie, Sidney previously worked in the transfer pricing team at a global Big 4 accountancy firm.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Assisted an engineering consulting company in managing transfer pricing controversy issues within an audit by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) which included preparing objections, responses to requests for information, position papers and statements of audit position.  
  • Supported a leading technology multinational with the ATO's combined assurance review and audit on international tax and transfer pricing issues.  
  • Assisted a global investment management firm with preparing transfer pricing documentation to support their intercompany arrangements in Australia and with preparing responses to multiple requests for information from the ATO on transfer pricing and income tax issues.
  • Advised a leading technology multinational company on the restructure of one of their core businesses in the Asia-Pacific market, advising on areas such as transfer pricing, permanent establishment risk, multinational anti-avoidance law and profits tax. Recommended actions to mitigate potential tax risk.
  • Helped various multinational clients navigate the updated thin capitalisation rules and their application to cross border financing arrangements. 
  • Advised multiple clients on key international tax risks for their related party debt arrangements, including royalty withholding tax, specifically in light of the ATO's focus in the area. 
  • Assisted various internationals in preparing transfer pricing documentation to support their transfer pricing positions and make Country by Country disclosures on their behalf to the ATO.
