Biography

Maritje is a Legal Consultant in the European Competition and Regulatory Affairs Practice Group in the Brussels office. She joined Baker McKenzie in March 2023.

Maritje advises businesses on a wide variety of EU climate, sustainability and energy regulatory issues.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Advised a number of multinational companies regarding their environmental, social and governance reporting obligations under the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and the EU Taxonomy Regulation.
  • Advised multiple multinational companies on their due diligence obligations under the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive.
  • Advised a licensing company on the likely impact of upcoming consumer protection laws applicable to sustainability claims as well as other ongoing EU legislative initiatives relating to sustainability on their sustainability initiative.
  • Advised a multinational energy company on the legality of the imposition at national level of regulated prices via Contracts for Difference (CfDs) on existing assets under EU law.
  • Advised clients on the recently revised EU Emissions Trading System regarding its implications on industrial operators.
  • Advised multiple clients on the developing regulatory and market framework for hydrogen in the EU.
