Biography

Carlos Suarez is a partner in the Major Projects Group practice since 2018. He joined Baker McKenzie's Madrid office in 2010 and completed a one-year associate training program in Baker McKenzie's Houston office in 2016. Carlos has developed his career in the area of mergers and acquisitions, advising on a wide range of transactional matters with a focus on energy and infrastructure assets.

Practice Focus

Carlos regularly provides advice to US, Spanish and other international corporations, private equity funds, institutional investors and private contractors in connection with transactional matters involving energy, infrastructure and other asset-classes, with wide experience coordinating deals in Spain, North America and Latin America. He also advises in connection with public private partnerships (P3s), equity investments and joint ventures, general corporate matters and project finance.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Advised several infrastructure funds in connection with the acquisition of renewable energy assets in Canada and the United States.

  • Advised Viscofan Group, the BME listed global leader in the manufacturing, production and distribution of casings for the meat industry, on several acquisitions of privately held corporations in the United States, Belgium, Canada and Australia.

  • Advised an Israeli investment fund listed on the New York and Tel Aviv stock exchange, on the acquisition, construction and development of a 300 MW photovoltaic plant in Spain.

  • Advised a private infrastructure fund in connection with the potential acquisition of a high voltage transmission line in New York, United States.

  • Advised a bidder in connection with an auction for the sale of an interest in a portfolio of hydro facilities in British Columbia.

  • Advised an international consortium in connection with a private public partnership project (P3) in Uruguay regarding the construction and maintenance of a railroad asset.

  • Advised a global multi-asset alternative investment firm on the acquisition of a privately held corporation engaged in the automotive sector in Spain.

  • Advised a global oil and gas company on the acquisition of an interest in the owner and operator of a combined cycle power plant in Spain and in connection with several solar and wind energy projects and its divestment of certain LNG assets in Spain.

  • Advised a global renewable energy and infrastructure leader regarding the investment and development of a concentrated solar power plant in Chile.

  • Advised a sovereign wealth fund regarding the potential acquisition of a minority stake in a Spanish listed company.
