Biography

Vivek A. Patel is is an associate in Baker McKenzie’s Tax Practice Group in Washington, DC, where he handles various aspects of tax law including tax controversy and international tax planning for multinational corporations. Vivek has participated in a wide variety of dispute resolution matters involving a broad spectrum of international and domestic issues. Prior to joining Baker McKenzie, Vivek worked as Attorney Advisor to the Honorable Thomas B. Wells at United States Tax Court where he drafted opinions, orders, and correspondence regarding various Federal income tax issues as they pertained to individuals, corporations, and flow-through entities. Vivek's work history also includes working as an Associate for an AmLaw 50 international law firm, where he advised clients on various domestic and cross-border transactions.

Practice Focus

Vivek’s practice focuses on the resolution of Federal income tax controversies with the IRS. Vivek advises clients throughout all administrative phases of a controversy, including audit, administrative appeals, and alternative dispute resolution proceedings. He has helped clients to successfully resolve cases before the United States Tax Court, United States Court of Federal Claims, United States Courts of Appeals, and other Federal and state courts throughout the country. Vivek also handles corporate tax planning related to domestic and international transactions, including international joint ventures, mergers, acquisitions, and reorganizations. He assists clients with the implementation of global tax structures and strategies.
