Biography

Matthew (Matt) Musano is a senior associate in Baker McKenzie's Tax Practice Group, based in the Firm’s New York office. Prior to joining the Firm, Matt worked for a Big Four accounting firm for 13 years providing state and local tax services to multinational and domestic companies in the banking, capital markets, and digital asset/cryptocurrency sectors.  During that time, Matt was the state income tax lead for digital assets and the New York market segment lead for financial services companies.  Matt also recently retired from the United States Air Force as a Major in the JAG Corps.

Practice Focus

Matt focuses on state and local tax matters with an emphasis on income tax planning, consulting and controversy. He has deep experience advising clients in the financial services and digital assets industries. His practice includes securing refunds, navigating complex transactional tax issues, and representing clients in audits and administrative proceedings. Matt also collaborates with state tax authorities on regulatory guidance and supports clients with alternative apportionment strategies and advisory opinion requests.
