Biography
Stephanie Metherall is a member of the Firm's Litigation & Government Enforcement Practice Group based in Washington, DC. Prior to joining Baker McKenzie, Stephanie worked as an associate for another international law firm. She is also proficient in French.
Practice Focus
Stephanie focuses her practice on cross-border investigations, False Claims Act defense, and regulatory and enforcement matters across a variety of sectors, including life sciences, technology, and healthcare.
Representative Legal Matters
Prior to joining the Firm Stephanie advised on the following matters:
- Internal investigation for global information services brand into allegations of FCPA and other violations of foreign law committed in award of foreign government subcontract, involving teams and witnesses in the US, Canada, London, and Johannesburg.
- Defense of medical clinic in federal qui tam litigation, alleging fraudulent billing of federal programs and retaliation in violation of the FCA. included conducting underlying legal research and drafting a motion to dismiss, which was granted.
- Internal investigation for global medical device manufacturer into allegations of Foreign Corrupt Practices and Sarbanes-Oxley Acts violations committed through distribution channels in China, which allegations were later investigated by the SEC. Responsibilities included drafting an attorney proffer, after which the SEC declined to continue its investigation.
