Pedro J. Londoño
Biography
Pedro Londono joined Baker McKenzie in 2019 when he was still at law school at Universidad de Los Andes. Since then, he has been part of the Intellectual Property team, where he has advised prominent national and international clients in the management of their trademark portfolios in Latin America, the enforcement of their rights through the design of anti-counterfeiting and brand protection strategies, and in the transactional side through the structuring of IP assignment and licensing schemes.
Pedro holds a law degree and Business Management minor from Universidad de Los Andes, and a Master of Laws (LL.M) from Columbia University. Throughout his career at Baker McKenzie, he has performed two secondments for multinational clients in the pharmaceutical and automotive industries. In recent years, Pedro has advised clients on challenging issues surrounding the impact and relevance of IP in new technologies, such as artificial intelligence.
Throughout his career, he has authored multiple articles on relevant IP issues, and co-authored the book "Estudios de Propiedad Intelectual Contemporánea" (Contemporary IP Studies). He has been a lecturer in several Latin American countries on anti-counterfeiting issues, trademark protection in digital spaces and disputes over artificial intelligence and copyright. He was also a finalist in the Reuben Mark Initiative competition on organizational leadership held by Columbia University's Business School. He is also co-founder of the Columbia Latin America Business Law Association at Columbia University.
Currently, Pedro co-leads the Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property research chapter of the Artificial Intelligence and Law research center at Universidad de los Andes.

Pedro has extensive experience in advising multinational clients in matters related to trademarks, copyright, entertainment law, media law and advertising clearance. He has delved into, and acquired broad kowledge on the pharmaceutical, technology and retail industries, which enables him to provide his clients legal advice with a strong commercial focus, matching their needs and interests.
For one year Pedro led, as Secondee, the Anti-Counterfeiting team for The Americas for one of the most important multinationals in the pharmaceutical industry. Additionally, he worked in-house as Secondee in the trademark and brand-protection area of one of the main multinationals in the automotive industry.
Representative Legal Matters

Led Anti-Counterfeiting team for The Americas of one of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies with a broad global presence in the OTC, pharma and vaccine lines of business.

Partook in the due diligence for one of the most important transactions in Colombia in the recent years in the energy field, where he was part of the team that analyzed the IP rights owned by the target company in the transaction.

Co-led for several years the management and coordination of the regional IP porfolio in LATAM for one of the main multinationals in the construction and heavy machinery industry.

Co-led the legal clearance of all the advertising campaigns in LATAM for an important multinational client.

Contributed to the successful defense of one of the largest north american company in the food industry against legal actions filed by fromer franchisees in Colombia, where he drafted several IP infringement lawsuits and a series of settlement agreements.

Assisted a leading North American tool company in the registration of a color trademark in Colombia, where there are currently only around 50 registered color trademarks. Aided the client persuading the Deputy Superintendent to grant the registration, and revoke the Trademark Office's decision that refused its registration in first instance.

Aided a British leading company in the alcoholic beverages field to attain the registration of one of their flagship vodka trademarks in Colombia.

Helped an American multinational corporation operating in the fields of industry, worker safety, health care, and consumer goods in attaining the declaration of the well-known character (fame) of their trademark in classes 9 and 10 in Colombia.
Corporate Responsibility

Participated in the Global Compass for Youth initiative led by Baker McKenzie and Apple, Inc., where attention lines and support was provided for youth during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Supported Fundación AlasCinco (which works towards aboloshing children malnutrition in Colombia) in an opposition proceeding against the registration of a trademark that was confuisngly similar to their flagship product ROLA LA GRANOLA.

Currently assists Green & Inclusive (a non-profit organization that supports vulnerable communities in their social and economic development through agriculture) in the clearance to register their IP rights in Colombia.

Supported client in attaining a severance package and retirement fund for the loss of labor capacities after he had suffered an accident.
