Biography

Kathleen is a senior associate in Dispute Resolution and is based in the firm's Sydney office. Kathleen has a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney and was admitted to practice in 2013.

Practice Focus

Kathleen practises in general commercial litigation across a range of sectors, including healthcare, product liability, employment, property and telecommunications. Kathleen's experience includes acting in claims arising in tort, contract, equity and statute.

Kathleen has experience acting in proceedings in various jurisdictions within Australia, particularly in the Federal Court and the NSW Supreme Court. Kathleen has experience and a particular interest in acting in class actions.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Acting for former directors and officers of Arrium Limited (a major Australian mining and materials company) in a range of proceedings commenced in the NSW Supreme Court arising from the administration of that entity, including public examinations, insolvent trading proceedings and proceedings for negligence and misleading or deceptive conduct
  • Acting for former directors of Arrium Limited in a shareholder class action commenced in the Victorian Supreme Court
  • Acting for an Australian marketing and fundraising agency in a class action commenced in the Federal Court alleging sham contracting
  • Acting for an international medical devices company in a class action commenced in the Federal Court alleging negligence and breaches of consumer legislation
  • Acting for a range of domestic and international clients in respect of complex multijurisdictional product recalls and advice in respect of product safety and liability
  • Acting for a multi-billion dollar Australian superannuation fund in a dispute arising from a change of corporate trustee in respect of a trust whose main assets comprised CBD property worth approximately AUD 100 million
  • Acting for a Singaporean-based property development lender company in respect of a dispute regarding drawn and overdue facilities, including the commencement of proceedings for recovery and acting in a series of complex property settlements to facilitate part-payment of the debt
  • Acting for a major Australian financial services entity in respect of allegedly negligent financial advice by a former employee
  • Acting in a series of employment-related restraint matters, including those involving alleged misappropriation of an employer's sensitive and confidential information by former employees
  • Acting for a global pharmaceutical company in respect of freezing orders obtained in context of imminent transaction
