Biography

Julia Hildebrandt joined Baker McKenzie's Dispute Resolution team in Vienna in August 2021. Prior to joining the Firm, she gained experiences as a trainee and later as a junior associate in a renowned Austrian boutique law firm, focusing on investment and international commercial arbitration. Julia graduated from the University of Vienna. She has substantial academic experience working first as a student assistant and later as an external lecturer at the Section for International Law and International Relations at the University of Vienna.

Practice Focus

Julia advises on international arbitration, with a particular focus on investment disputes and public international law. She has experience in proceedings under the ICSID, ICSID Additional Facility, ICC, and VIAC Rules, including cases involving energy, construction, and franchise-related matters. Her practice spans both commercial and investment arbitration, often involving parties from Central and Eastern Europe. Julia regularly works under Austrian law and has handled matters involving the CISG as well as agency and distribution law.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Representing an energy infrastructure company in an arbitration against a state from CEE under the Energy Charter Treaty administered by ICSID under its Additional Facility Rules.
  • Representing a large US food producer in an ICC arbitration concerning the validity of a technology license agreement and claims arising from the unauthorized use of intellectual property.
  • Representing the Austrian affiliate of a global food and beverage company in the quick-service restaurant sector in multiple litigations against former franchisees before Austrian courts.
  • Representing a Scandinavian energy company in a VIAC arbitration concerning the performance of equipment supplied for a hydropower project and issues relating to the application of the CISG.
