Biography

Ethan Chetty is an associate in Baker McKenzie's Corporate Mergers & Acquisitions Practice Group in Johannesburg.

Ethan advises various types of funds and companies (local, multinational, private and listed) spanning a broad spectrum of sectors including asset management, pharmaceutical, telecommunications and technology.

Prior to joining the practice, Ethan's career spanned 6 years in international and domestic corporate investigations and dispute resolution in South African and American Law.

Representative Legal Matters

M&A

  • Advised an American multinational technology company on post-acquisition integration in respect of a multinational software business with an enterprise value in excess of USD 50 billion. 
  • Advised an American asset management firm on a proposed acquisition of a multinational manufacturing business with an enterprise value in excess of EUR 2.3 billion. 
  • Advised one of the largest global asset management firms on a proposed acquisition of a software company with an enterprise value in excess of USD 1 billion.
  • Advised a multinational investment holding company in respect of a proposed initial public offering of a multinational technology company with an enterprise value in excess of USD 1 billion.
  • Advised an American fintech company on the proposed acquisition of a multinational payment system provider with an enterprise value in excess of USD 400 million.

Litigation, Arbitrations and Corporate Investigations

  • Represented a development consortium in an ICSID arbitration in respect of a claim valued at USD 1.4 billion.
  • Conducted a corporate investigation and represented an engineering consultancy firm in respect of allegations of bribery, corruption and fraud valued in excess of USD 112 million.*
  • Conducted a corporate investigation and represented an international business consultancy firm in respect of bribery, corruption and tender irregularity allegations in respect of commercial agreements valued in excess of ZAR 800 million.
  • Represented a construction company in international arbitration proceedings in respect of a FIDIC Yellow Book design and build project with a claim valued in excess of ZAR 235 million.
