Biography

Henna Bhandal is an associate in Baker McKenzie's Litigation and Government Enforcement Practice Group, based in the Firm's Los Angeles office.

Before attending law school, Henna was a foreign policy and national security adviser with the Government of Canada. Henna was also a primary contributor to the Government of Canada's first Poverty Reduction Strategy, and an Intern at the United Nations. 

Practice Focus

Henna focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation and international arbitration (commercial and investor-state), representing global companies in a wide range of matters. She also represents domestic and international companies in compliance matters, including investigations conducted internally and before government agencies. Henna has trial experience in California state court, including the preparation of direct- and cross-examinations, and motions in limine.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Represented a small, privately held company in state court in San Francisco, suing one of the largest insurers in the world, and winning a 3-week trial with a verdict of USD 20 million for breach of contract, bad faith and punitive damages.
  • Advised a leading cryptocurrency platform on investment arbitration risks against a potential target company.
  • Advised a leading oil and gas company on potential investment arbitration claims against a joint venture partner.
  • Acted on behalf of a foreign construction and civil engineering company in an ICDR arbitration related to a joint venture dispute.
  • Acted on behalf of a major consumer goods company in an ICSID arbitration against a foreign state.
  • Advised an automotive industry company in an international sanctions-related investigation.
  • Advised an asset management company on compliance with debt collection licenses in California. 
  • Acted for a client on the enforcement of a Swedish arbitral award in English courts.
