Biography

Jodi Avila is a partner in the Dispute Resolution Group, and serves as co-chair of the Articles Committee of the North America Trial Team. Drawing on her depth of experience and record of success, Jodi guides teams of attorneys and outside consultants in the development and implementation of strategies to achieve the most favorable outcomes for her clients. A skilled courtroom advocate and trial attorney, Jodi represents multinational corporations and individuals in a wide range of commercial litigation, business torts, antitrust, and complex employment matters. Jodi also works with clients on internal investigations, regulatory investigations (including white collar crime) and compliance matters.

Jodi also has significant appellate experience, and has represented clients in the Unites States Supreme Court and the United States Courts of Appeals for the Eleventh, Federal and D.C. Circuits.

During a brief respite from private practice, Jodi served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Adalberto Jordan of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Practice Focus

Jodi's litigation practice focuses on high-stakes disputes in federal and state courts throughout the country. She regularly represents clients on matters involving commercial contract breaches, warranty breaches, misrepresentation and fraud, unlawful and unfair business practices, antitrust, and complex employment contract litigation.

Jodi's internal investigation and white collar defense experience includes bank fraud, healthcare fraud, securities fraud, and complex cybercrimes.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Defended the owner and operator of a South Florida mortgage bank in a criminal prosecution brought by the Department of Justice.

  • Represented an international diagnostic service provider in a patent infringement lawsuit.

  • Represented the world’s largest lessor of Boeing 767-200SF aircraft in a breach of contract and conversion lawsuit against foreign sub-lessor.

  • Represented a foreign entity in a lawsuit seeking to recover assets misappropriated through fraud.

  • Represented a broadband provider in a multi-million dollar breach of contract and fraud action brought against media delivery company.

  • Defended a limited liability company and its managing member in a derivative lawsuit, obtaining dismissal with prejudice in clients’ favor.

  • Represented a well-known television personality in a breach of contract lawsuit, obtaining dismissal with prejudice in client’s favor.

  • Represented a Miami real-estate developer in a multi-million dollar civil rights case against a South Florida municipality.
