Global law firm Baker McKenzie has added Allison Murphy in Washington, DC, as a Partner in its Dispute Resolution Practice Group. Allison will co-head the Firm's Congressional Investigations Practice, advising clients facing high-stakes congressional inquiries, government investigations and related regulatory challenges.
A widely-recognized investigations lawyer across the US, Allison counsels public and private companies navigating complex oversight matters before Congress. Allison brings extensive experience guiding clients through House and Senate committee investigations and hearings as well as parallel inquiries from federal government agencies, state attorneys general, and private litigants. She regularly prepares chief executive officers and other senior executives for congressional testimony and advises clients on crisis management, strategic communications and headline risk issues.
Allison has over a decade of experience on Capitol Hill leading landmark investigations, including as Chief Oversight Counsel to the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis and as Counsel to the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. She previously served as Associate Counsel in the White House, advising senior Executive Branch officials on congressional inquiries as well as litigation and executive privilege. Allison joins Baker McKenzie from another prominent global firm.
“Allison has built an outstanding reputation advising clients through some of the most complex and visible congressional investigations in recent years,” said Widge Devaney, Americas Chair of Baker McKenzie's Global Dispute Resolution Practice. "Her experience in the White House Counsel's Office, on Capitol Hill and in private practice gives her a remarkably well-rounded perspective, and she brings exactly the combination of judgment, credibility and strategic insight that clients need in these high-stakes, high-visibility matters.”
As co-head of Baker McKenzie's Congressional Investigations Practice, Allison will work closely with former US Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein, former FBI senior official Sumon Dantiki and other members of the Firm's disputes, investigations, national security, trade, and cybersecurity practices to provide clients with coordinated advice on matters involving congressional oversight, enforcement risk and crisis management.
Rod, who will co-head the Congressional Investigations Practice with Allison, noted: "Congressional investigations move with a speed, intensity and public visibility that distinguish them from most other legal proceedings. The consequences often extend well beyond Capitol Hill, creating regulatory scrutiny, enforcement risk, civil litigation and significant reputational challenges. Allison is one of the foremost congressional investigations practitioners in the US, and her experience will be tremendously valuable to organizations navigating an increasingly complex and evolving oversight environment.”
Allison has been recognized by Chambers USA for Government Relations: Congressional Investigations from 2024-2026, named to Lawdragon's 500 Leading Litigators in America in 2025 and 2026, and recognized by The Legal 500 US for Government Relations in 2025.
"I am excited to join Baker McKenzie and further build out our Congressional Investigations Practice," said Allison. "The Firm's unmatched global platform, collaborative culture and multidisciplinary approach provide an exceptional foundation for helping clients navigate complex investigations and oversight matters. I look forward to working alongside my new colleagues to deliver practical, strategic counsel to clients.”
Allison’s arrival builds on recent momentum in Washington, DC, where the Firm has added several leading practitioners from the US government. In addition to Rod and Sumon, the Firm has added former DOJ Antitrust Division Assistant Attorney General Mark Hamer, former US DOJ Antitrust and Consumer Protection litigator Tim Finley, former DOJ tax official Lindsay Clayton, former US trade enforcement official Nat Halvorson and former US Treasury official Scott Levine.
