In brief
On 7 October 2026, following a public consultation in November 2025, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) issued the Guidelines on Artificial Intelligence Risk Management (“Guidelines”). The Guidelines may be viewed here.
The Guidelines set out MAS’ supervisory expectations relating to artificial intelligence (AI) risk management in financial institutions (FIs), and seek to support their responsible adoption of AI. They establish a set of high-level expectations that all FIs should adhere to as they deploy AI, including Generative AI and newer developments such as AI agents, in the following areas:
- AI oversight by the board and senior management
- Key AI risk management systems, policies and procedures
- AI life cycle controls
- AI capability and capacity
The Guidelines take effect on 7 October 2027. FIs may meet the expectations concerning areas 1 and 2 by 7 October 2027, and may meet the expectations concerning areas 3 and 4 by 7 October 2028.
