Role Purpose

Baker McKenzie is investing in a new capability: uniting data science, internal and external data, machine learning and legal domain expertise to create new value for our clients, our firm and our communities. At the centre of the firm’s Reinvent programme, this is at the cutting edge of innovation in the legal services industry. You will be there from the beginning, part of the new BakerML team, working on pioneering projects to deliver machine learning enabled legal judgment.

The Site Reliability Engineer, Infrastructure will lead our initiatives administrating, managing the systems and support of the infrastructure related to the Linux and Data Science environments such as SparkBeyond. SparkBeyond has built an AI-powered research engine, capable of finding complex patterns in data by understanding their meaning. Operating at the intersection of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence fields. We are looking for an experienced Engineer, who wants to lead, create an impact, work with top-notch talents, and strive for technical excellence. The engineer will perform deployment, operations and maintenance activities for all SparkBeyond server and storage systems. This person will enforce standards, policies, and procedures related to the operation of SparkBeyond systems.

 

Function

The BakerML team is a specialist, multi-disciplinary group of experts from across multiple functions in the Firm. The BakerML team will work closely with leading AI technology company, SparkBeyond. Under the leadership of Chief Innovation Officer, Ben Allgrove, the team will leverage SparkBeyond’s AI-powered advanced analytics and augmented research platforms on a series of projects, exploring new ways to apply machine learning to transform the legal industry and address key societal problems.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Deep understanding of working with docker
  • Deep understanding of Kubernetes
  • Deep knowledge about Linux operating systems, CentOS, RHEL
  • Deep knowledge about network storage (NFS, CephFS)
  • Be familiar with one of the following scripting languages: Bash, Python
  • Deploy and or configure SparkBeyond with the following framework: On Prem, Azure, AWS, GCP
  • Be familiar with virtualisation technology - either VMWare/HyperV
  • Play a key role in creating the infrastructure for developing and serving a Saas Product
  • Maintain, monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot issues in dynamic and complex environments
  • Work with a variety of technologies, methods, platforms, and practices both on cloud and on-premises

Skills and experience:

  • B.Sc. / B.A. in Computer Science is preferred, but not mandatory
  • Strong experience as a DevOps engineer
  • Strong experience with building & maintaining Linux based systems
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to define, maintain and improve high code standards by leading others and putting the right process in place
  • Proficient in design and support of the following products Tech-savvy - like to learn and develop your tech skills with the latest technology and methodologies
