Our Global Antitrust and Competition Group is the world’s largest antitrust practice, with over 300 antitrust attorneys worldwide.  We annually are honored as a Top 5 “Global Elite” antitrust law firm by Global Competition Review, with a deep bench of antitrust experts in every major jurisdiction that has active antitrust enforcement.  Our team handles bet-the-company antitrust litigation, global merger control analysis for complex cross-border transactions, and major international cartel investigations.  In the United States, the antitrust attorneys are also part of the 160-lawyer North America Litigation and Government Enforcement group.  Baker McKenzie’s robust North America antitrust team has recently been growing to meet client demands.  The vibrant practice, centered in Washington, D.C., has an expanding portfolio of antitrust litigation, merger clearance matters, and cartel investigations.

The Washington, DC office of Baker McKenzie LLP seeks an associate with two to five years of antitrust experience.

Experience Required

The ideal candidate will have prior experience at the Department of Justice Antitrust Division, the Federal Trade Commission, and/or a major U.S. law firm with a substantial antitrust practice.  We do not rigidly separate attorneys by antitrust sub-specialties;  thus, we seek a candidate who has interest in and experience with the full spectrum of antitrust work including federal court litigation, governmental investigations, antitrust merger analysis and filings, and cartel defense.   The associate will become a core member of an antitrust practice that expects to grow exponentially in Washington D.C. in the next 5 years.

Experience Required (candidates with exceptional experience in some but not all categories will be considered):

  • 2-5 years of experience in antitrust, either in a law firm or government environment;

  • DOJ or FTC antitrust enforcement experience preferred;

  • Familiarity with the Sherman and Clayton Acts;

  • Experience with DOJ, FTC and/or State AG antitrust investigations, including CID negotiations and responses;

  • Experience with governmental and/or private antitrust enforcement, including litigation and trial;

  • Experience with merger review, HSR filing procedures, the Horizontal Merger Guidelines, and the Tunney Act process;

  • Familiarity with conducting global merger control filing analysis;

  • Experience in federal court litigation practice and procedure;

  • Experience with antitrust criminal cartel investigation, enforcement and trial;

  • Experience preparing and conducting antitrust compliance training programs;

  • Prior federal judicial clerkship experience is a plus.

Top academic credentials, strong analytical ability, and excellent communication and writing skills are required. Please include a cover letter, transcripts, a writing sample and resume with your application.  The candidate must have the ability to function smoothly in a global team environment with culturally diverse team members. Must be admitted to and a member in good standing of the Washington, DC bar or eligible to waive in to the Washington, DC bar.
