The Senior Manager Talent Management, United States will work with the Director of Talent Management (TM), North America to articulate and execute the People strategy for the United States, consistent with the Firm's People strategy; lead the US offices working closely with the Canada and Mexico offices TM Lead in managing the TM function, and manage the department's resources.

  • Work with the Director of Talent Management, North America to develop and deliver a compelling People strategy across the US offices
  • Partner with the Talent Management leads for Canada and Mexico to act as an enabler to the unified Firm's Business Partnering model to ensure further collaboration and consolidation of processes and policies
  • Enhance the experience for all the Firm's employees, and create exciting, fulfilling new opportunities for the business professionals in our Firm
  • Lead, manage and train the office-based US Talent Management professionals, setting high standards and values, and embedding shared values of collaboration, creative thinking, and client service across the team
  • Develop and deliver the Talent Management business partnering service across the US, managing a team to work closely with the Firm’s lawyers and Business
  • Professionals to execute the People strategy for the US Offices
  • Evaluate existing Talent Management and Human Resources policies and develop/formalize US policies (consistent with regulatory requirements) to ensure appropriate consistency and incorporation of best practices
  • Evaluate existing Talent Management and human resources practices in the US and implement practice improvements (consistent with regulatory requirements) to streamline processes, eliminate duplication of effort, and, where feasible, reduce expenses
  • Partner closely with our Specialist People functions (Leadership & Learning, Careers & Performance, Recruitment & Mobility, Diversity & Inclusion) to jointly deliver best-in-class solutions for the US that deliver on our ambition to be the law firm employer of choice and deliver against the requirements of the business
  • Implement global development and promotion processes across the US
  • Play a critical role in influencing, identifying, and maximizing opportunities to improve performance and potential capability of the Firm, enabling employees to deliver to the best of their abilities and work towards the next steps in their careers
  • On behalf of US, manage organizational change and improvement across human resources, performance management and compensation, workforce planning, career development, and succession planning via the Talent Management business partner network in the Firm
  • Implement the Firm's response to its employee surveys in the US, working closely with the leadership in the People function to develop and execute enhanced People strategies
  • Serve as lead US Talent Management contact for the US leadership regarding sensitive people issues and work with office-based resources and internal employment counsel to resolve complex human resources/talent management issues and sensitive employee relations issues

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree focusing on Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, Organizational Development, Management, or other related areas
  • Extensive experience in HR/Talent management, preferably in a professional services firm environment
  • Experience in leading large HR/Talent Management teams across multiple offices and jurisdictions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact and influence at the highest levels of the Firm
  • Fluent written and spoken English is required
  • Ability to implement success in creating an environment of trust with partners; effectively utilize negotiation and conflict resolution skills when needed
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and drive results with a sense of urgency in setting strategies and executing against the objectives
  • Proven ability to influence, interact and consult with senior leaders, strong collaboration skills, and effective stakeholder management
  • Strong coaching, counselling, business acumen, and overall communication skills
